I had a sweet new set of strings made for my 2009 Elite GT500 by the guys over at Side Hill Strings and brought them over to Darin Jenison who owns and operates BHUNTN Archery in John Day. Darin is a local Elite dealer and happens to be a big bull slayer. I can’t even begin to tell you how many huge bulls the guy has harvested over the last decade, and all on Oregon public land OTC hunts, which makes it even more of a feat. Every trip to his shop has me drooling over the massive amounts of big bull mounts and sheds he has piled up in every nook and cranny.
Darin took the time to really pour over my bow and noticed a few issues with it due to my neglect. He spent a full two days tearing it down, adjusting it, and making minute tweaks to get the bow shooting perfectly. He even had Elite send him over some new limbs for the bow free of charge.
While I was in his shop, he had me shoot the new 2013 Elite line. I was not in the market for a new bow. My 2009 GT500 has been an awesome bow for me and I had no plans of giving it up any time soon. A quick shooting session in his shop with the 2013 Elite Answer was all it took to change my mind. I went home that night with my newly spruced up GT500 but could not get the Answer off my mind.
A few days later, Darin happened to mention that Elite sent over a new Answer to his shop. I said I’m not interested unless it has a black riser and Max 1 limbs. Darin said I was in luck and that is exactly what it was, with a 28.5” draw length to boot so it would be the perfect fit for me. I was at his place the next day with cash in hand.
The Answer is a fantastic bow. It has a smooth draw cycle and not harsh whatsoever for a binary cam bow. There is absolutely no hump in the draw cycle at all and makes a flawless transition into the valley with a rock solid back wall. It also has a long valley that feels like you can be at full draw on a bull for days without getting tired. What impressed me the most about the bow was how quiet it was; also, I really like the look of the new Cerakote cams and limb pockets. I haven’t run any arrows through the chronograph yet, but I’m certain my Gold Tip Pro Hunter 7595’s weighing 410 grains will be traveling at 295 to 300 fps with my set-up.
There are lots of nice bows out there for us to choose from, but when one just feels right, you have to go with your gut. It doesn’t hurt to know that Darin is a master at tuning Elite bows so if I ever need help, he will meticulously tune my bow until it’s perfect. If you’re looking for a new bow at unbeatable prices or want to have Darin super-tune your bow, find him on Facebook at BHUTN Archery or give him a call at (541) 620-0364. Thanks Darin!
Thanks Elite for the sick new bow, very excited for the upcoming year!
